Pro Wakeboard Tour Shakes Up Competition in 2005

Orlando, FL (April 11, 2005) -– A new year will bring some changes on the MasterCraft Pro Wakeboard Tour in 2005. Beginning with the inaugural event at Orlando WaterSports Complex April 28-May 1 the Pro Tour will go with a head-to-head format for the final rounds of competition.

The new format, which applies only to the final rounds, was developed by the Pro Tour’s Competition Director Chris Bischoff. The eight riders in the Pro Men’s finals will be matched up head-to-head, meaning each rider will compete against just one other rider instead of the seven other riders in the heat. Judges will select the one rider of the pairing that has the best overall run and advance that rider to the next round to meet another rider who has won their pairing.

“This will really make things exciting in the finals,” said Bischoff. “Two riders will be fighting it out, trying to survive. While one rider is throwing down his best run, the other rider watching from the dock knows he will have to do better or go home.”

The eight riders who qualify for the Pro Men’s finals out of the semifinals will be seeded into brackets in rankings one through eight. Each highest ranked rider will face the next lowest ranked rider (1 vs. 8, 2 vs. 7, 3 vs. 6, 4 vs. 5). The top eight will be eliminated to four after the first head-to-head match-ups. The four survivors will go back out head-to-head with the two winners moving to the head-to head final run. The winner of the final run will become the champion of the event.

The Pro Women and SeaDoo watercraft Pro Wakeskate series will also hold finals in a head-to-head format. In those events the top two riders from the semifinals will battle it out in the finals for the top spot.

The MasterCraft Pro Wakeboard Tour is a five-event circuit organized by World Sports & Marketing of Orlando, Florida.
